We have some very exciting golf days coming in March and would like to take the opportunity to invite all members to show their support and take part.
Firstly, Ladies Day on Saturday 2nd March. This competition is open to all Lady Members at a cost of 20 euros which includes a light refreshment afterwards. To register please speak to the caddy master before 25thFebruary.
Places are limited and filling up fast so don’t leave it too late to enter your name.
Secondly, we have the Orihuela Costa Trophy on Saturday 16th March which is open to all members and guests. Cost is 35 euros for members and 55 euros for guests. This includes a glass of wine, large beer or soft drink. Competition will open on 12th February and close on 12th March. Booking System
A reminder regarding the booking system and group bookings.
If you take part in a ‘group booking’ once a week, you must remember to keep two bookings for the group (week 1 and week 2). Similarly, if you take part in two ‘group bookings’ then you must keep four of your bookings for the group. As the lists for all groups are handed in to Campo two weeks in advance you must ensure you have enough bookings to allow the group organiser to register your name. Going forward, anyone wishing to enter a group who has already reached their maximum bookings will be removed from the list for that day and the reserves will be able to play.
Clarification of 24 Hour Rule
In the September 2023 newsletter we outlined the Booking rules. We have found that we need to clarify the 24-hour rule. Going forward, Campo have agreed to release all unused member tee times for the next day at 3pm (so for a Friday the members tee times will be released at 3pm on the Thursday). This will only be for members and not available to Green Fee players. Therefore, our tee times are fully protected. This will be for all members and not subject to any restrictions i.e. if you have used up your tee allocation.
On the same day, any unused tee times (member tee times and Campo tee times) will be available to book by both members and green fee players. Bookings should be made with the caddymaster if you have used up your booking allocation, otherwise booking online is advisable. This will be in place by Monday 12th March 2024.
Course update
The board are pleased to announce that we now have a new lady member on the Course Committee; Kathie Buzzeo. Kathie is an experienced golfer and will be able to give the course committee a perspective from our lady members.
The board would also like to take this opportunity to remind members the importance of replacing divots, repairing pitch marks and raking bunkers. As golfers, a small amount of our time and attention can go a long way in helping to maintain high-quality playing conditions on our course.
After a suggestion from one of our members, Gonzalo reached out to the new Major of Orihuela Costa, and we are delighted to announce that the pedestrian crossings from tee 1 to tee 2 and tee 2 to tee 3 have now been repainted and are much clearer for drivers to see.
Also, the muddy entrance to the blue and red tees on hole 17 has now been repaired and made safe.
To help speed up play, holes 6 and 17 will now be ‘call up’ holes. When playing, after all the players in your group have reached the green and marked your balls, stand to the side in a safe area and ‘call up’ the group behind you. Once they have teed off you can then continue to putt and finish the hole. If every group on the course complies with this, we should see less queueing at these bottlenecks on the course.
Board meeting with Gonzalo and Jose
On 30th January the board had a meeting with Gonzalo and Jose. The meeting was very constructive and informative. We have found both Gonzalo and Jose very open to our suggestions for improvement and both had suggestions of their own. We are pleased that we have a very good working relationship with Campo, and we look forward to working closely with them in the future.
At the meeting many proposals were discussed, including more communication between Campo and the board. This will allow the board to keep our members informed of any upcoming work to be carried out on the course.
Gonzalo also advised us that Campo have specialists who inspect our course monthly and then advise the Green Keepers of any findings.
AGM
The Annual General Meeting will be held at the Golf Club on Saturday 23rd March 2024. Members will receive an email inviting them to attend.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy golfing season.
