Dear Members
Welcome back to a new season of golf at Villamartin. The course is in a good condition and we have been promised some new investments in maintenance equipment including a new bunker raking machine!
This Newsletter will cover mainly the following topics
- Election of a new Board of Directors from January 1 2018
- The Club´s competition schedule for the second half of 2017
- Handicap regulations
Election of new VMGC Board from Jan 1 2018
Mildly said, we are disappointed at the lack of interest from the shareholders to contribute to the efforts of running the Club! Below you will find part of what was said already in the last Newsletter before summer:
“As you have hopefully seen in the Minutes from EGM held March 18, we now have the different election committees elected and the Electoral calendar decided on. However, a common misunderstanding is that now we have members in place that will secure the election of a new Board! This is not the case! According to our Statues both the Electoral Board and the Scrutinizing Board have only the tasks to administer the election, not to find candidates and/or propose such candidates for election! This interpretation of the Statues has been confirmed by the elected Electoral Board It is also important to understand that individual candidates are not possible to elect, only complete candidates lists headed by an incoming President. Please have a look at Article 40 of our Statues that you will find under ”Members Area” on our homepage.
So dear members, it is now time to become active and find candidates that are willing to form candidates lists or individual candidates that are willing to be considered as members of such candidates lists.”
According to the decision of last EGM, summons to the election will be on the notice boards latest October 9 and the period of submission of candidates lists is October 23 to 28! The full Electoral Calendar is available on the first page of our website!
Again we urge all shareholders to try to find candidates that are willing to form teams that can candidate to the new Board.
COMPETITION SCHEDULE AUTUMN 2017
- the first competition is October 14-15. There will be a scratch (no handicap) Club Championship for men and ladies played over two days. On the 15 th there will also be a Club competition open for all members not participating in the Club Championship. We are happy to announce that also this year La Caixa bank will sponsor the event during the 15th. Those participating in last years event surely remember that day as a big success with great food and drinks. We will start from both tee 1 and 10 in the morning of the 15th between 8-10 am (no tee times for members in the afternoon), which means that the La Caixa party will start at around 3 pm. Details will soon be published on notice board and homepage, but entries to both competitions can be made already NOW at Caddymaster. Maximum participants day 2 are 136 players.
- October 28 we intend to organize a Ladies Day. Two competitions will take place a) a “Solheim Cup” and b) a Club stableford competition open for all lady members. If any member has a proposal for a sponsor for this event, please contact Marianne Åström or Ulla Bai Höllund.
- November 19 “Ryder Cup” will be played. Mike Aylett is the organizer of this event.
HANDICAP REGULATION
Before summer there was a discussion about the issue of “ONE handicap only” if you are member of more than one golf club also in different countries. There is no doubt that the EGA (European Golf Association) Handicap Committee wants this to happen and it is also confirmed in the document “EGA handicap system 2016-2019”.
Our Club´s handicap committee who deals with members that are also members in clubs in different countries, has questioned if this is fair in a situation where the different countries have so very different rules for the opportunities to adjust handicaps. We have sent a letter to EGA and asked for guidance but despite of reminders we have got no answers. One reason might be that the key members of the EGA handicap committee who wrote this document are now replaced. We will continue to seek guidance.
Meanwhile, one member of our Club contacted the Spanish Golf Federation (RFEG) through its Valencian office and got the answer that what is said in the document is supposed to be followed. However, one member of our Club´s handicap committee, had during summer a meeting with a Vice President at the Valencian office and at that meeting information was received that shows different views depending on which official you talk to. We will take initiative to a formal meeting with RFEG as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, any member who wants to adjust their RFEG handicap based on regulation in another country must go through our Club´s handicap committee (Lars Hoel).
